The 2022 Players Championship gets underway this week and, as usual, that 17th hole will get a lot of air time as big-time golfers take aim at a green almost entirely surrounded by water, thank you very much Alice and Pete. But, it wasn’t the first island green. That distinction goes to another, the 9th hole at the Ponte Vedra Beach Inn and Club, designed by Herbert Strong, shown at right.
