poker for green keepers

Well, it’s also called a green aerator. Yes, this device, which looks like it belonged to the Spanish Inquisition, is actually a device for aerating greens. Used in the early part of the past century, the machine was employed by the green keeper, or his employee on the club’s precious greens. He, or she, would position the tool, stand on it with both feet, then use the lower handle to retract the tines. The device was noticed at one of the Columbus, Ohio, winter trade shows. It is not recalled what the exhibitor was asking for the machine. If he, or she, still has it, please write in and let us know what you know about the device. (Maybe you have tried it out on your own back yard green?)
