COLLECTORS:  If you were born with “The Collector Gene” and have in your blood the drive to hunt for, hold in your hands, and organize items, and have come to realize that golf too is eminently collectible; and because collectors understand collectors when others might not, this makes the GHS a home for you.  

We relish collecting items of personal interest or beauty which are a pleasure to display, but we also enhance the stories behind our objects bringing them more to life than before we discovered them. This website describes many categories of golf collecting but the choice is yours.  Become the curator of your own museum.  An expert in your own niche.  Fellow members will want to see your collection, encourage you to write about your discoveries in our magazine “The Golf”, on our website and within our social media, or during our frequent zooms.  

This is a wonderful time to collect golf.  Be it for pure pleasure or profit, some incredible collectibles are now more affordable than ever while others are through the roof but likely with continued upside as collecting golf is still in its infancy relative to other major sports. 

But all collectors have questions.  Willing members are listed in our Member Directory with their interests and contact information available to other members. Is this auction item legit? How rare is this item? What’s it worth? Does anyone have more information about my item or my research?  Would you like to buy this item or trade for it?  These interactions are particularly supreme at National Trade Shows and Regional events where indivdual trusted friendships are routinely made.  

HISTORIANS: You need not be a collector to benefit from and give benefit to the GHS. We love to relate current events and themes in golf to its historical origins or past stars.  Our authors are highly appreciated as we strive to promote their work. If they need a photo of an historic object or of a particular course or past player there’s likely a collector happy to share. We routinely review their books, invite them to trade shows and zoom interviews and promote them in our outreach to members and other affiliates.  A new section of the website will soon list Author’s works with links to their personal websites as we all promote golf’s heritage.

Players:  Golfers who revere playing an historic venue or the Muni down the street are the souls who are the GHS.  Our National and Regional events include golf tournaments with hickory or classic clubs or your modern sticks, with multiple divisions including scrambles. Through the Directory you might find members by location who will appreciate being called for a casual round of nearby golf or starting a local hickory day amongst friends.  If you wish to be active you will visit some very interesting cities and undoubtably make friends.  Friends that will invite you to their homes, to their private club, to tournaments and venues you might only have dreamed of experiencing. Maybe to finally plan that dream trip to Scotland.

FOR ALL MEMBERS:  “The Golf” magazine alone will delight even the most casual amongst us. Invitations to Events, Zooms, and the monthly Newswire are just the beginning.  But the fullest reward is knowing that you are part of something special.  The camaraderie that we pride ourselves on is there for the taking.  Hobnobbing at conventions with world famous authors, architects, sportscasters, professional players and others is not an uncommon thrill.  You can certainly buy, sell, and trade collectibles at our National Conventions and Regional gatherings, and numerus tournaments with hickory or classic clubs provide a strong connection with the past.  Along with those new friends that will take you in and open unexpected opportunities is the ability to contribute within a leadership path that is available for the asking.

You don’t have to have an expansive collection, or be an authority, nor a maestro at hickory golf, but all who love the game and who have stories to share are enthusiastically welcomed.
